Terence Hill and Bud Spencer

Film duo

Terence Hill (born Mario Girotti in 1939) and Bud Spencer (born Carlo Pedersoli, 1929–2016) are Italian actors who made numerous action-comedy and Spaghetti Western films together. They "garnered world acclaim and attracted millions to theater seats". While Hill's characters were agile and youthful, Spencer always played the "phlegmatic, grumpy strong-arm man with a blessed, naive child's laughter and a golden heart".

History

They first appeared in the same movie under their real names in Hannibal (1959), but not as a duo: they only appeared in supporting roles and had no scenes in common. They did not meet during filming. Their first movie as a duo was God Forgives... I Don't! (1967). Originally Peter Martell was chosen as the leading actor next to Spencer, but the day before the first shoot Martell broke his foot and was replaced by Hill, which launched their partnership. The film director asked the two actors to change their names, deeming them to be too Italian-sounding for a Western movie. At the time cast and crew in Italian Westerns frequently adopted American names to give the film a better chance of selling in non-Italian speaking countries; Girotti changed his name to "Terence Hill" and Pedersoli chose "Bud Spencer", with Bud inspired by Budweiser beer and Spencer by the actor Spencer Tracy.

Most of their early films were "Spaghetti Westerns", beginning with God Forgives... I Don't! (1967), the first part of a trilogy, followed by Ace High (1968) and Boot Hill (1969). They had a huge hit with the comedy Western They Call Me Trinity (1970). When the film was first announced, Peter Martell was set to play Trinity and George Eastman Bambino. The two characters were later portrayed by Hill and Spencer, who became a popular comic duo following the release of God Forgives... I Don't! The sequel of T

Terence Hill (born Mario Girotti; 29 March 1939) is an Italian actor, film director, screenwriter and producer. He began his career as a child actor and gained international fame for starring roles in action and comedy films, many with longtime film partner and friend Bud Spencer. During the height of his popularity, Hill was among Italy's highest-paid actors.

His most widely seen films include comic and standard spaghetti Westerns, some based on popular novels by German author Karl May about the Wild West. Of these, the most famous are Lo chiamavano Trinità (They Call Me Trinity, 1970); ...continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità (Trinity Is Still My Name, 1971), the highest grossing Italian film at that time; and Il mio nome è Nessuno (My Name Is Nobody, 1973), co-starring Henry Fonda. Hill also went on to a successful television career in Italy, most notably playing the title character in the long-running Rai 1 series Don Matteo from 2000 until 2022.

Early life

Hill was born on 29 March 1939 in Venice, Italy. Hill's mother, Hildegard Girotti (née Thieme), was German, from Dresden; his father, Girolamo Girotti, was Italian, and a chemist by occupation.

During his childhood, Hill lived in the small town of Lommatzsch, Saxony. He was there up to the end of World War II.

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill: Slaps and Beans

2018 cooperative video game

2017 video game

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill: Slaps and Beans is a side-scrolling beat 'em up game, with some elements of platform and minigames, developed by Trinity Team srls, it is the first official videogame inspired by the Italian duo of actors Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, and released first in 2017 for PC and then ported in 2018 also for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. A sequel, Slaps and Beans 2, was released in 2023.

Plot

The game is a tribute to the films made in the 1970s and 1980s with the duo of actors, in which Bud Spencer and Terence Hill must thwart the diabolical plans of a group led by the evil "Capo". The settings of the game are taken from the filmography of the duo and range from the Wild West, to Miami, to the tropical island on which the movie Who Finds a Friend Finds a Treasure is set.

Gameplay

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill: Slaps and Beans is a side-scrolling beat 'em up game that takes its cue from classics of the genre, such as Double Dragon or Golden Axe, but with advanced combat mechanics aimed at buying combat choreography as much as possible faithful to the fist fights of Bud and Terence. In some moments it will be necessary to use the specific skills of the protagonists (such as Terence's agility and Bud's strength) to overcome obstacles and proceed in the story. The fundamental ingredients of the game are obviously the classic fights of Bud and Terence, but it is enriched by the presence of several mini-games, such as dune buggy races, the car of Watch Out, We're Mad!.

The graphics are in the style of 90s pixel art. The soundtrack is made up of a samples of effects and many pieces by Oliver Onions, the musical duo composed of the brothers Guido and Maurizio De Angelis, who made the soundtracks of most of the films that inspired the game.
