For rapper, producer, and songwriter Price, Evans Street in Los Angeles is where he blossomed into the man he is today. There, he grew up with his mother and five of his relatives in his grandmother’s house. With that type of upbringing comes a plethora of tales that serve as the foundation of his second studio album, F.O.E.S., which was released last month.

“I speak about so many different things on the album,” Price tells Billboard. “F.O.E.S starts with my single black mother having to take her three children to go move in with their grandma, which is so many of our realities. With the album and the solo experience, everything I do and been doing has been solely about liberating my people, the African-American people. That’s been my journey and mission and that’s my goal and my world and it’s going to stay that way.”

Price arrived on the scene in 2009 as a member of the rap duo Audio Push, which found brief success with the single “Teach Me How To Jerk.” Within Audio Push, Price had to fuse his story, music and skills with his friend Oktane to make their duo an actual rap group, and that brought the challenge of standing out as individual artists. Despite sacrificing their individuality, Audio Push put out four albums and a slew of mixtapes from 2009 to 2018. Price later ventured out and became a force collaborating with Travis Scott, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and more behind the scenes.

Audio Push is an American hip hop duo from Inland Empire, California, known for the West Coast hip hop dance, Jerkin'. The group consists of Oktane (Julian Browne) and Price (Larry Jacks). In 2009, the duo were signed to Interscope Records. The duo had their first hit single with "Teach Me How to Jerk".

In August 2010, Audio Push released a second single, "Up n Down", which showcases the group's softer side. On this offering, the song has much more of an R&B feel to it as the beat consists of soft piano chords blended with sporadic finger-snaps, and a simple bass line. The song was composed by Boston-based production team, Kadis and Sean. The track became available for digital download on iTunes on August 17, 2010, and the music video was released in September 2010. In November 2010, Audio Push released two singles: "It's Going Up" (ft. Soulja Boy) and "Body Rock" by Mann (ft. Audio Push), In 2012 they released via BLKDMNDS, the singles "Extras" and "Wassup" off of their mixtape Truth Be Told. In 2013, they released a mixtape Come As You Are and signed to producer Hit-Boy's Hits Since '87 record label.

In 2012, they signed with Hit-Boy's record label "Hits Since 87 Inc" a part of Interscope records, run independently by Hit Boy himself. Since signing with HS87, they have brought forth music that consists of different genres, not only Hip Hop, but also R&B, etc. Most known for their song "Shine" off of the Come As You Are album in 2013.

Inland Empire’s resident hip-hop duo Audio Push are pre-gaming for their debut with the rambunctious yet unapologetic The Stone Junction EP (a nod to their native Califonia as well as their recording location, Stone Mountain, Georgia). Delivering the turn-up anthems “Servin'” and the Kap G-assisted “Vamonos” (which sparked from a Narcos episode), the “Teach Me How to Jerk” hitmaking tandem comprised of Julian “Oktane” Brown and Larry “Price” Jacks are delving into what they consider their “first commercial” effort.

“This is so far from our debut album,” teases Price over the phone, noting that the seven-track offering is a combination of their Cali roots and the Dirty South sound. “I want people to understand this [project] is still us holding back — this isn’t us telling our direct story. This is just us giving you a jab before the knock out, period.”

They had no idea what the future held for them when they first bonded on the basketball courts in middle school. But one hobby led to the recognition of another common interest; an interest which would eventually lead to their pursuit of a hip-hop career worthy of placement amongst some of the greats.

Born and raised in the Inland Empire, during the 90s, Audio Push’s Price, 22, and Oktane, 23, have always been immersed in music. In fact, their list of inspirations reads as a roster of icons: Eminem, E-40, Outkast, Suga Free, Wu Tang Clan, and A Tribe Called Quest to mention a few. Yet, although their love hip hop was great, both state with strong affirmation that as youngsters they could not have foreseen just how far it would take them.

Coming together to form Audio Push (formerly, The Push), the duo has amassed serious buzz through the release of several mixtapes, national recognition, radio success, and the formation of their own label—BOW Entertainment. They signed with Hip-Hop and R&B platinum-producer Hit-Boy’s record label, Hits Since 87 (or HS87), in 2012; a partnership which holds extreme significance for Audio Push as their friendship and mutual respect runs deep.

Under HS87, Audio Push released their highly lauded mixtape, “Inland Empire.” Off the strength of that project, the pair embarked on the Amerikaz Most Wanted tour—a 40 city tour alongside Lil Wayne, T.I., and 2 Chainz. It was during this time that they began work on their newest mixtape, “Come As You Are”—the title courtesy of Nirvana’s 1992 single.

Inspired by their journey and current success, “Come As You Are” is yet another intricate display of not only lyrical prowess, but seamless delivery. Capturing a raw hip-hop sound, “Come As You Are” intertwines hip hop and R&B samples underneath the riveting production of Hit-Boy, Hazebanga, Eric Choice, Key Wayne and more; all the while maintaining a west coast vibe.
