Kellie Shanygne Williams-Jackson (néeWilliams; born March 22, 1976) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Laura Lee Winslow, the middle-born child of Carl and Harriette Winslow on the ABC/CBStelevision seriesFamily Matters which ran from 1989–1998. She is also known for her role as Tuesday in Millicent Shelton's 1998 film Ride.

Early life and career

Jackson was born in Washington, D.C. as Kellie Shanygne Williams. After Family Matters, she began acting in the ABC television show What About Joan. In 1996, she had a recurring role as Charisse J. Mitchell on the hit UPN sitcom, Moesha, and later Michelle, Nikki's rival, in The Parkers. In 2006, Williams reunited with her former Family Matters co-star Darius McCrary on the UPN sitcom Eve for two episodes "Separate, But Unequal" and the final cliffhanger episode "Daughter Don't Preach" as Lynn. She was also on the Style Network program Clean House for six episodes in 2009, as a substitute host for Niecy Nash.

In 2007, Jackson created the Kellie Williams Program with co-creator Jeff Rawluk in the Washington, D.C., area. The program will provide Washington, D.C., students between the ages of 14 and 20 an opportunity to produce a television show to air on Comcast Cable Local On-Demand. Since then, she's amassed an impressive list of theater credits, including roles in "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," "Butterfinger's Angel," "Colored Museum," "Goin' Home," and "The Bacchae," in which she performed highly acclaimed vocals.

Two of her most exciting theatrical experiences were working in "Mimes and Yarns," which was staged at the International Drama Festival in Dundalk, Ireland; and "Pure Energy," which played in Nassau.

From 1989-1998 Kellie was Laura Winslow on the Sitcom "Family Matters" her most popular role. It was a home video by her dad that won her the role in a nationwide search.

Kellie's television credits include appearances on the special, "Celebration in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," "Luther's Choice," and the sitcom, "Moesha."

She made her feature-film debut in "Suspect," which starred Cher and Dennis Quaid. She also appeared in "Men Don't Leave," with Jessica Lange.

Furthermore Kellie was a special guest host for one of the Arts and Entertainment Network's most successful program, "An Evening at the Improv." For the MTV Network, Kellie was their guest DJ on MTV's "Videos with Idalis"; guest host of MTV's "Jams Video Countdown"; and guest host of MTV's "Summer Beach Party."

She also has made several television guest appearances, including "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" and "The Jon Stewart Show."

This young actress played the intelligent Laura Winslow, the eldest daughter, on the long-running sitcom "Family Matters" (ABC, 1989-1997, CBS, 1997-98). Her character functioned within her family unit chiefly to wisecrack her brother, but became part of the focus of the series with the introduction of annoying neighbor Steve Urkel (Jaleel White), whose one mission in life was to win Laura's heart. A Washington, DC native, Williams began as a child model and branched into acting at age six. She made her TV debut on the variety special "An All-Star Celebration Honoring Martin Luther King Jr" (NBC, 1986) and had bit roles in the features "Suspect" (1987) and "Men Don't Leave" (1990).

In 1989, she landed the role on the ABC sitcom and practically grew up on the series. Her Laura Winslow was the typical teenager, reflecting contemporary tastes by changing her hairstyles and knowing the latest songs and dances. When the character graduated from high school, she was accepted at Harvard, but top retain Williams on the show, she was forced by a lack of finances to attend unspecified local college in Chicago. By the sixth season, Urkel was able to turn himself from nerd into his suave alter ego, Stephan Urquelle, and Laura became romantically involved with Stephan, although the character only made occasional appearances to keep the relationship going.
