  • COVID survivor Arnel de Pano sent home by Marikina hospital workers singing his song &#;Lead Me Lord&#;

    &#;Lead Me Lord&#; composer Arnel de Pano has recovered from COVID and was sent home with a touching serenade by hospital personnel at the Marikina Valley Medical Center.

    &#;Lead Me Lord&#;, the iconic inspirational song made popular by Basil Valdez in the s and revived by Gary Valenciano a decade later, was sung by the medical team as De Pano was cleared from COVID infection. Touched by the gesture, De Pano in return, prayed for them.

    The frontliners of the Marikina Valley Medical Center serenaded the new COVID survivor as a send-off as he was discharged from the hospital on April 2, The video was posted on April 3 by his wife Amy Avena De Pano.

    &#;Arnel prays for his medical team, his angels in this tough journey to healing. Mabuhay po kayo, Dr. Jerome Santos and your medical team of frontliners!! God&#;s blessing, wisdom, empowerment and protection upon you all!!! posted Amy Avena de Pano on Facebook.

    &#;That moment was actually a special moment for me. I did not expect it. They just decided really among themselves to send me off. That was the day I was being discharged. They decided to send me off with my own song. Hearing that from the people who took care of me really broke my heart. They&#;re the ones who work tirelessly and selflessly to get me back on the path of recovery and healing,&#; Arnel De Pano told Rico Hizon in an interview with CNN Philippines.

    He said that hearing the song from them inspired him. &#;I just wanted to give it back to them. Lalo na ngayon, while I am recovering at home I will not forget the efforts they exerted to get me well. I am very very grateful and very very happy the credit that should be given to them is being given to them,&#; the composer added.

    De Pano recounted how he was admitted to the hospital as a suspected pneumonia and typhoid patient.

    &#;I was really in denial that I was a COVID case. When I learned

    Who Is Arnel Pineda?

    After a series of unfortunate events in his childhood, Arnel Pineda found success in Asia as the front man for the group The Zoo. In , he was discovered by Journey guitarist Neal Schon, after a series of YouTube videos were posted of him covering American songs, including the famous hit, "Dont Stop Believin'." In December , Pineda became the new lead singer of Journey. His is noted for having a strikingly similar sound to former Journey front man Steve Perry.

    Troubled Childhood

    Arnel Pineda was born on September 5, , in Sampaloc, Manila, in the Philippines. Throughout his childhood, Pineda endured grave misfortune. When he was just 13 years old, his mother, who was 35 at the time, passed away after a long battle with heart disease. Her medical costs left the family in serious debt, and Pineda's father could no longer provide for Pineda and his three younger brothers, Russmon, Roderick and Joselito.

    While relatives were able to take in his brothers, Pineda was left on his own. He spent the next few years homeless, often sleeping outside in public parks and scraping for any food or water that he could afford. When possible, he would stay at a friend's house, who offered him a cot outside. Eventually, Pineda was forced to quit school and take up odd jobs collecting scrap metal and bottles at the pier and selling newspapers to support his family.

    Early Career

    Pineda's love of music started at a young age. He began singing at just five years old, and had entered many singing contests as a child. In , when he was 15, Pineda was introduced to a local band called Ijos, and was encouraged by his friends to try out as their new lead singer. He sang the Beatles' "Help" and Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All." Although they were concerned with his lack of training, Ijos members were wowed by Pineda's powerful voice, and took him on as the new front man of the band. One of the band mem
